Maybe this is the time to leave Photoshop aside when we are creating web sites. The new features of CSS3 bring more powerful tools to the designers. I think that any designer was waiting for long time.

Now we can use shadows for pictures, text and buttons; letters effects, and transitions. I found a lot of examples in this web site webdesignshock.com.

Before CSS3, was no way to create these elements directly on CSS. I think that our minds have a challenge now. We just need to learn how apply it, “Use it, not abuse it”.

Years ago a power point template was our lifesaver for structuring fast a good presentation slides. In a world where we everything has to be done very quickly the concept to Framework remind me those concepts.

Frameworks is defined as a set of tools, libraries, forms, typography and fluid layout modules, that we can storage so they can be reused. Sites like 960.gs shows a great framework examples that anyone can use for projects. I will be start using frameworks as part of my projects. It will help me to develop sites more quickly and effectively.

Reading some blogs, I found that works with frameworks in a team work is a great tool, because if everybody in the same team knows how this is framework is structure it will be easy to edit it. But in reality the majority of designer still not work with frameworks.

This is a link that I found about frameworks user chart. They shows that designer in majority don’t use Frameworks. Some in the comments talk about that the reason of not using frameworks is because there are so many people that don’t understand how css resets work and why/why not to use them.

Also I found “Less Framework” site. Less Framework, is a CSS grid system for designing adaptive websites. It contains 4 layouts and 3 sets of typography presets, all based on a single grid. Is something that I have to experiment.

http://blog.echoenduring.com/2011/03/03/why-i-use-css-frameworks/

The great thing on modern browsers is that they can render complex graphics animation and processing-intensive scripting.

The designer must establish that the information displayed on a website must be accessible in all platforms and not conditioning the user to upgrade their browsers in order to see the complete content.

Harish Ranganathan, talks about the html5 has the ability to run videos on web pages without dependency of plugins and this is a new challenges for web designers.

Jason Gross

Talks about users are looking for content no design looking. Users visit websites in order to gain information, socialize with other users, or to complete a specific task.

The way of users manage technologies is changing with the years. The use of mobiles instead of the desktop , is everytime more common.

Graceful degradation is the process by which the look and feel will reduce gradually for the older websites. It is difficult for web designers to create websites that will work on any browser versions. Most of the Web Developers create websites that work well only in newer websites without a lot of support for older websites.

In the other hand, Progressive enhancement is where web developer create a base level user experience for all viewers As a result every website will provide a similar look and the users of older browsers can access limited functionality.

Thank to this method users can use the technology they prefer. If they pick to use the older browsers they get to see only a limited functionality.

Maybe the best idea for a designer is to choose the progressive enhancement approach. Start with a basic viewing experience and build your website progressively to add more features. Another important information that I found was that the Section 508 Amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 mandates that all electronic information should be made available to people with all kinds of disabilities including technical know-how. The best option is create web site with good standards.

These are a good blog with a good information!

By the years that I was little, TV was still on black and whites and we had to use a bunny antenna. You know, those with two sticks pointing vertically up. My brothers were six and the girls were three counting me. Girls always tend to lose each time that we wanted to watch a TV show. Suddenly my older sister started creating strategies to put the younger brothers on our side an then balance votes to our favor. My sister made a deal with them in which they could have all the deserts the wanted if they supported watching our show. Very soon and gladly they accepted.

As soon as my older brothers realized that the younger ones were supporting girls, they suspected they were being manipulated and the most enraged fight ever at home. My parents went out to work and we were alone in the house. Girls and the little ones were watching a show and my older brother said that he wanted to watch the soccer game. Without an apology he changed the channel and the rest of brothers sat to watch the game. Well, my sister did not have the intension to leave things that way. But, how to take over the TV if they where stronger?

My sister took us to the kitchen and we all created a plan. Immediately, we went back to the living room and my sister stood in front of the TV and said: “Change the channel or you will regret.” Of course, four of them, all guys, looked at each other and laugh. Then, my sisters snatched the antenna and throw it to my other sister who cached it with ability.

Consequently, the TV stopped working and all the boys run after my younger sisters, who at the same time throw the antenna out thru the window. In the meanwhile, without them noticing, the little ones and me pushed the TV on its wheeled table to another room and locked the door.

That was how they could not watch their game. Controversially we, improvising an antenna with two forks, were enjoying our show and eating a delicious desert lying down on our beds.

Being invited to a party when having a family of eleven while the rest of families invited have only three or four members, is very hard. Financially, it is difficult because normally in a party people have to provide refreshments and food. Furthermore the most difficult thing is to find space to fit everyone, there was never enough space when my family was invited and even the biggest houses in the neighborhood were not big enough to welcome us.

The host’s house always appeared desolated before our family arrived. When we reached the party and we entered one by one, it seemed like nobody else could get in there.

My mom always tried to cook something to share and her nine children could eat. She also offered to the hosts help with the arrangements before and after the party so she could feel free and not be embarrassed anymore. The good news was that the guests usually loved my mom’s dishes because she is a great cook.

I remember one occasion that one of the gests told me: “Please call your brothers and sisters to have some desert.” It was a delicious cake that she had baked. Without knowing that we were nine and I without warning her, I called them and in less than a minute the cake had been disappeared by us. The rest of gests could only watch how we were enjoying each piece. And they all gests and hosts learned a lesson that day.

Most of the parents like buying toys, dolls, train, etc, for their kids to play with. However, in my family my mom thought that instead of simple toys, a good idea would be to buy instruments for kids and use them at the playtime. I think my mom liked this idea because she is a Soprano and my dad is a Tenor, so we have the musician vein in our blood.

At the beginning, she started buying a mini three pieces drum set and one electric keyboard. For us, it was incredible; we had our own rock band! It was difficult for my mom to buy instrument according to all ages; Instruments that we all could use starting from the oldest brother who was 13 years old and also thinking about the youngest who was 1 year old.

When she realized that we showed interested for music and musical instruments, she brought more instruments like maracas, whistle recorder, tambourine, triangle, pair rhythm sticks, harmonic, etc. Instruments had to be small enough for her little musical children. The noisy sometimes was a fusion from different sources. Mom and dad could get confuse between instruments and the crying of the little ones.

My mom thought that this way she could inspire us to be great musicians in the future. Despite the noise and fights over instruments she was not in an error. When the years past, six of my brothers and I became musicians. Now we have a band the occasionally plays in Dallas and Fort Worth. We recorded a Cd to leave an evidence of our talent in this planet and now days we enjoy playing for our family and gests in every party o family event.
